My Retrojunk: A compelling technique of sharing photos with co-present others

Before we were forced to develop photos which provide us with physical artifacts to share with others. The experience of passing around photos and talking about them with friends or family is an enjoyable experience which has died a little due to the adoption of digital photographs. A couple of years ago, I implemented an idea to reproduce this style of photo sharing with current technology. Everyone has a mobile phone which is essentially a display capable of viewing digital photographs. Since most phones these days also have cameras, many people have some sort of photos stored on their device. The idea was to share photos stored on your device with other people using their devices. The display is broadcast to others interested and can be manipulated by anyone taking part. From my experiments, I found that it was an interesting, fun and compelling way to share digital photographs, and provides a fun-filled experience. For more information you can find my paper here.
